THE PATH TO YOUR PRIVATE PILOT LICENSE (PPL)
- THE MEDICAL - Students are required to have an aeronautical medical to begin taking flight lessons. For the Private Pilot License, you will need a Class 3 medical done by an aeronautical medical examiner; however, it is encouraged that students looking to make aviation as their career to get a Class 1 medical. We recommend Andy Davenport near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
- THE KNOWLEDGE TEST - Students are required to take a knowledge test for each FAA license they are taking lessons for. MzeroA.com provides an online and affordable Private Pilot Bootcamp to help prepare you for the knowledge exam. The exam - if passed - has a duration of two years before it expires. Therefore, students should plan to take their written exam and private pilot checkride within 2 years.
- FLYING - Students will go through a series of manuevers, techniques, and practice at the Lakeway Airpark in order to obtain their Private Pilot License. You will be trained to the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and be signed off for your solo endorsement to fly on your own.
- THE CHECKRIDE - After students pass their medical, knowledge test, and are trained to the Airman Certification Standards, a checkride with a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) will be scheduled to test your knowledge and abilities relating to the private pilot level.
